Michigan announced on Saturday morning that senior guard Caris LeVert will be out for Saturday’s Big Ten game against Penn State.

The 6-foot-7 senior suffered a “lower left leg injury” late in the Big Ten opening win over Illinois on Wednesday. He didn’t practice on Thursday or Friday. And that, more or less, is all we know at this point.

“We don’t know all the specifics,” head coach John Beilein said after Saturday’s win over Penn State. “I know you’d like me to know the specifics so I don’t want to speculate on what we don’t know yet. But in time we’ll know more.”

The location of the injury if the biggest concern here. LeVert fractured his left foot, which required surgery to repair, in May of 2014. His 2014-15 season was also cut short because of a stress fracture in the same foot that also required surgery.

When healthy, LeVert has been a tremendous player during his career at Michigan and his senior season is off to a tremendous start. The senior guard is averaging 17.6 points, 5.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists per game while shooting 50.9 percent from the field and 44.6 percent from 3-point range.
