New Mexico pulled a C-Webb.
With the clock winding down in a game tied at 89, New Mexico forward Tim Williams tried to call a timeout as the Lobos were grappling for a loose ball with Rice.
The problem?
New Mexico didn’t have any timeouts left.
He immediately knew he had made a mistake. Watch him try to wave off the timeout:
The timeout New Mexico didn't have and didn't mean to call that cost it the game vs. Rice. Technical foul. #mwbb pic.twitter.com/lGev4zKVpu

The referees ruled that the timeout had been called with 0.1 seconds left on the clock, and Rice’s Egor Koulechov hit a free throw to put the Owls ahead 90-89. Game over.
Making this loss particularly crushing for UNM was that the Lobos were up by 16 points with six minutes left in the game. They never should have been in a position to lose the game on an accidental timeout. Williams, to his credit, scored 14 of his 18 points in the second half.
Chris Webber, while playing for Michigan back in the 1992 national title game, famously called a timeout when his team was out of timeouts.
