Saturday afternoon Arizona held its annual Red-Blue Game at McKale Center, giving fans their first on-court look at the new team (and hosting some talented recruits, including new commit Lauri Markkanen, as well). One of Arizona’s newcomers is forward Mark Tollefsen, a versatile 6-foot-8 grad student who’s eligible immediately after playing three seasons at San Francisco.
Prior to the Red-Blue Game there was a dunk contest, which was won by Tollefsen with the impressive dunk that can be seen above. After a manager laid the ball into the basket Tollefsen swoops in, catching the ball and going between his legs before dunking on the opposite side of the rim. Not a bad way to seal the victory.
As for the scrimmage itself, Tollefsen contributed 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists as the Red team won by the final score of 49-41. Sophomore center Dusan Ristic led the way offensively with 14 points, and freshman guard Allonzo Trier chipped in with nine. For the Blue team forward Ryan Anderson, who sat out last season following his transfer from Boston College, led all players with 15 points while also grabbing eight rebounds on the afternoon.
Senior guard Gabe York scored ten points for the Blue squad, with freshmen Ray Smith (eight points), Chance Comanche (six) and Justin Simon (two) getting on the board as well. Senior center Kaleb Tarczewski did not play in the game due to an ankle injury suffered in practice earlier this week.
