Two Memphis basketball players avoided injury when a fire ripped through their off-campus apartment on Wednesday morning.
Roommates Trahson Burrell and Markel Crawford woke up to a fire alarm, Memphis coach Josh Pastner said, and were able to exit the building after trying unsuccessfully to put out the fire.
“The smoke alarm went off and they got up and tried to put (the fire) out and it just kept going and going, and they got out of there,” Pastner told the Memphis Commercial-Appeal, adding that the two players and their two roommates lost quite a bit of their stuff in the blaze.
Crawford’s brother told a local TV station that he believes the fire was electrical. That was later confirmed by the Memphis Fire Department.
