Indiana picked up one of its main recruiting targets on Saturday morning as four-star guard Curtis Jones pledged to the Hoosiers.
The 6-foot-4 Jones was down to Cal, Georgetown, Indiana and Oklahoma State, but ultimately decided to play for head coach Tom Crean. Regarded as the No. 64 overall prospect in the Class of 2016, Jones took an official visit to Indiana in late August.
A scoring guard who can also handle the ball a bit in a pinch, Jones should give the Hoosiers an additional weapon on the perimeter who can knock down jumpers and also attack the basket. While playing with Boo Williams in the Nike EYBL this spring, Jones averaged 16.1 points, 3.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in 17 contests. Jones also shot 43 percent from the field and 35 percent from the 3-point line.
The goal for Jones and Indiana now will be to persuade five-star wing Miles Bridges to join the program in the 2016 class. Both Jones and Bridges attend powerhouse Huntington Prep and Bridges cut his list to Indiana, Kentucky and Michigan State this week.
Jones should already have some connections within the Indiana program as freshman big man Thomas Bryant is a Huntington Prep alum and forward Troy Williams and guard Robert Johnson both came from Boo Williams.
With the addition of Jones, Indiana now has two Class of 2016 commitments as he joins in-state shooting guard Grant Gelon.
