In late August it was reported that College of Southern Idaho shooting guard Ar’Mond Davis had scheduled official visits to Memphis, Texas A&M and Alabama, with the Tigers hosting the Tacoma, Washington native this weekend. And on that trip Davis has verbally committed to Josh Pastner’s program, and he announced the news via Twitter.

“Blessed to say that I am committed to the University of Memphis and will be playing there next season,” Davis tweeted.

Pastner and assistant coach Damon Stoudamire were both highly active in Davis’ recruitment, and the hard work paid off for the Tigers in the end.

Davis, who was the sixth man at College of Southern Idaho last season, averaged 10.9 points and 3.9 rebounds per contest as a freshman. An athletic 6-foot-6 guard, Davis can score at all three levels (around the basket, mid-range and from three) and is a solid defender as well. And given the amount of talent Memphis stands to lose at the end of the 2015-16 season, he’ll have the opportunity to contribute immediately upon his arrival.

Memphis will lose four perimeter players after this upcoming season, with two being wings Trahson Burrell and Chris Hawkins. The Tigers added seven freshmen to the program this year, including highly-regarded brothers K.J. and Dedric Lawson, and at present time they’re due to have just two upperclassmen (not including Davis) on the roster in 2016-17 in guards Avery Woodson and Markel Crawford.
