Charlotte head coach Mark Price landed his first verbal commitment in the Class of 2016 Thursday evening, and it’s an important one for the future of the program.

Three-star point guard Quentin Jackson Jr. announced via Twitter his decision to commit to the Conference USA program, picking the 49ers over offers from programs such as Cincinnati, Providence, Rutgers, Ole Miss and Tennessee. The Raleigh native not only gives Charlotte much-needed depth at the position, but he’s also a player Price can build around as he looks to rejuvenate the program in his first head coaching gig.

Charlotte currently has two scholarship point guards on its roster in redshirt junior Braxton Ogbueze and freshman Andrien White.

Jackson attends the Carlisle School in Martinsville, Virginia, and being able to learn from a coach with Price’s credentials as a player was one of the reasons for his decision according to the Martinsville Bulletin. Also at play was Jackson’s desire to wrap up his recruitment before his senior season, allowing him to focus fully on winning a state title.
