DePaul and new head coach Dave Leitao have made the Chicago Public League an early priority during his second tenure at the school as the Blue Demons picked up a commitment from in-state point guard Devin Gage.

The 6-foot-2 Gage is regarded as a three-star prospect, according to Rivals, and comes from Curie, one of the best high school basketball programs in Chicago. An athletic guard who can attack the basket and make plays for others with the pass, Gage was recruited hard by the previous DePaul staff under head coach Oliver Purnell and the new staff under Leitao continued to apply the pressure.

Gage is the first commitment for DePaul in the 2016 class and his commitment comes after the Blue Demons landed 2015 forward Frederick Scott from Simeon earlier this month. Leitao landing players from two of the best high school programs in Chicago is a positive sign for DePaul’s recruiting outlook at the local level because previous DePaul coaches like Jerry Wainwright and Purnell had some difficulties navigating the city’s complicated recruiting landscape.
