Reports: Northern Kentucky to move to the Horizon League

Northern Kentucky is expected to announce on Monday that they will accept a bid for membership as the tenth team in the Horizon League, according to a report from the Cincinnati Enquirer. That announcement is pending a vote by the school board.

That report was seemingly confirmed by the president of Wright State, a Horizon League member.

The Norse were previously a member of the Atlantic Sun conference, playing as a member of the league since 2012-13. NKU will play in the Horizon during the 2015-16 season, the year that they will complete their transition to becoming a full-time Division I member.

NKU will be eligible for the 2017 NCAA tournament.

The university announced this spring that Dave Bezold will not be returning as head coach, as they replaced him with John Brannen. Former Butler star Ronald Nored, who played on the teams that went from the Horizon League to back-to-back national title games, was hired as an assistant on Brannen’s staff.
