Slowly but surely five-star small forward Jaylen Brown is getting closer to making a decision regarding where he’ll attend college next year.

Thursday night it was first reported by 247Sports.com that Brown has cut Kansas from his list, trimming the possible suitors to four schools. Those four schools are California, Kentucky, Michigan and North Carolina, and each of those programs would greatly benefit from landing Brown.

California received a commitment from five-star power forward Ivan Rabb earlier this month, and adding Brown to a perimeter rotation led by veterans Tyrone Wallace, Jordan Mathews and Jabari Bird would make the Golden Bears one of the early favorites in the Pac-12 with two-time defending champ Arizona.

As for Kentucky, the Wildcats lost seven players to the NBA Draft and have a three-member recruiting class at present time. John Calipari returns guard Tyler Ulis and forward Alex Poythress, but there’s a clear need for talent in Lexington given the number of contributors lost. Michigan and North Carolina both return the majority of their respective rotations from last season, but adding Brown would be quite the boost for both.

The Wolverines, who have one scholarship available, return Caris LeVert and Zak Irvin on the wings but Brown would add a dimension to the offensive attack for head coach John Beilein. As for North Carolina, outside of J.P. Tokoto every major contributor returns to a team that should contend for a national title in 2015-16.

The top-ranked team in our Way-Too-Early Top 25, the Tar Heels’ case as a favorite to cut down the nets in Houston would get even stronger if they managed to land a commitment from Brown.
