As expected, Arizona State has fired head coach Herb Sendek after nine seasons with the university.

Sendek had previously spent a decade at N.C. State, where he had led the Wolfpack to five straight NCAA tournaments to close out his tenure. The Sun Devils reached just two NCAA tournaments under Sendek. The first came in 2009, when James Harden was on the roster, and the second was in 2014, when they lost to Texas in the opening round.

Arizona State went 18-16 this season, finishing just 9-9 in the Pac-12. He went 155-133 in his nine seasons in Tempe and just 68-86 in the Pac-12 during that stretch.

ESPN.com was the first to report that Sendek’s job was in jeopardy on Tuesday morning.
