The 2015 NCAA Tournament saw record-setting numbers during an exciting Thursday slate of games and that trend has continued as the Tournament has progressed.

According to a release from the NCAA, Saturday’s NCAA Tournament games averaged a 7.4/17 overnight rating/share, which is up 14 percent from 2014, according to Nielsen metered market ratings.

The first three days of the Tournament also set a new record by averaging a 6.5/14 overnight rating/share, which is a record in the current television format.

We’ve heard all season about the pitfalls of college basketball and how it’s leading to a decline in interest. The one-and-done era means casual fans don’t remember players as well from year-to-year and the lack of scoring in college hoops has also been beaten to death.

Regardless of those issues (and they do need to be addressed at some point) it doesn’t mean people can’t enjoy the win-or-go-home aspect of the NCAA Tournament or appreciate the high volume of close games early in the Tournament.

With Kentucky still working towards a perfect season and plenty of powerhouse programs left, there should be plenty of exciting storylines to follow for the rest of the 2015 NCAA Tournament.
