Providence head coach Ed Cooley left yesterday’s road game at Xavier and went to a local hospital in the middle of the game. Cooley spent the night in a Cincinnati hospital for further observation.

Thankfully, Cooley is heading home from the hospital and will be returning home on Sunday morning. According to an official release from Providence, Cooley intends to coach the Friars’ next game on Wednesday.

“Providence College men’s basketball coach Ed Cooley has been released from the hospital in Cincinnati and is returning home this morning (Feb. 8). He intends to coach the team in its next game on Wednesday versus Villanova at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center at 8 p.m.,” the statement said.

“Cooley left the court two minutes into the second half of the Friars’ game at Xavier on Saturday. He was taken to a hospital in Cincinnati and spent the night.”

Obviously this is good news for Cooley and Providence and it’s nice to hear that the head coach is feeling better. The Friars fell to Xavier without Cooley on the sidelines and will definitely need him against a team as good as Villanova.
