For many college students the process of finding a job after graduation begins before they even receive their bachelor’s degree, and in the case Duke junior center Marshall Plumlee he’s found his first post-graduation job more than a year before he’s scheduled to walk across the stage.

Plumlee, whose interest in the armed forces was piqued by the basketball program’s visit to Fort Bragg in October 2012, will be sworn into the Army Friday according to Ryan Hoerger of the Duke Chronicle.

Plumlee won’t join the Army until after he graduated in the spring of 2016, and as a member of the school’s ROTC program he’ll have to complete the requirements that come with that as well. According to the story Plumlee’s been granted a waiver to join since as a 7-footer he’s four inches taller than the limit of 80 inches (6-foot-8), and he made the most of his time at Fort Bragg when it came to learning more about the military.

In October 2012, head coach Mike Krzyzewski took his Blue Devils to Fort Bragg, where the team took part in physical conditioning and hosted an open practice for troops on the base.

On that trip, Plumlee spoke with Lieutenant General Robert Brown, a former teammate of Krzyzewski at West Point.

"[I think that trip] got Marshall interested in the Army, and serving a cause bigger than himself,” (Duke Department of Military Science recruiting and operations officer David) Behm said.

With his future employment now taken care of, Plumlee has taken care of the one thing that tends to cause stress amongst many college students in the months leading up to graduation. And he’ll get to serve his country as well.
