This has been a busy time in college basketball recruiting, as a number of 2015 players have not only narrowed down their lists but also decided where they’ll attend college. Wednesday afternoon another player announced when he’ll be making his decision, as four-star shooting guard Levan “Shawn” Alston tweeted that he’ll do so on September 30.

The 6-foot-4 Alston attends Haverford School in Haverford, Pennsylvania, and as a junior he averaged 16.5 points, 5.2 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game on a team that finished the 2013-14 season with a 16-8 record. Alston played his grassroots basketball with the Team Final program, and in Nike EYBL play he accounted for 13.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.0 assists per contest.

Alston shot the ball well this summer, making 43 percent of his shots from the field and 39 percent of his looks from beyond the arc.

As for the schools in contention for Alston’s commitment, there are six. Those schools are Marquette, Notre Dame, Penn, Penn State, Temple and VCU with Alston narrowing his list in late-June. Alston, whose father (Levan Sr.) played at Temple for John Chaney, discussed his final list with Josh Verlin of City of Basketball Love at that time.

“I picked this group because I feel like these are the coaches who really care about me the most,” Alston said. “A lot of times, coaches just call you because they’re hearing things, they hear that you’re doing good and they just want to say they offered you, but these coaches were at every one of my games during the whole summer, so they showed a lot of support.”

Thus far Alston has taken official visits to VCU and Temple, with the latter having been completed this past weekend. He’s also scheduled to take an official visit to Penn State in late September.
