DePaul senior guard Charles McKinney started 11 of the 28 games in which he played last season, and with Brandon Young having graduated he was in a position where he could provide the Blue Demons with some additional depth in 2014-15. Unfortunately for McKinney he won’t have that chance, as the program announced Wednesday afternoon that the 6-foot-3 guard has been dismissed for a violation of team rules.

McKinney played just under 17 minutes per game last season, posting averages of 3.9 points and 1.9 rebounds per contest.

DePaul lost leading scorer Brandon Young at the end of last season, and they’ll be relying on a combination of junior college transfers and the return of Big East Rookie of the Year Billy Garrett Jr. this upcoming season. Garrett Jr. averaged 12.4 points, 3.0 assists and 2.4 rebounds per game as a freshman. Perimeter returnees joining Garrett Jr. include Jamee Crockett, Durell McDonald and R.J. Curington.

As for the newcomers looking to crack the perimeter rotation the Blue Demons add two junior college products in guards Aaron Simpson and Darrick Wood, with Illinois transfer Myke Henry eligible after sitting out last season per NCAA transfer rules. Henry was rated as a four-star prospect as a senior at Orr HS in Chicago.

DePaul finished the 2013-14 season with a 12-21 record, going 3-15 in Big East play.
