In his first three seasons as a member of the Penn State basketball team, walk-on guard Kevin Montminy played in 39 games and scored a total of 24 points with 20 of those coming during the 2012-13 campaign. The role of being a walk-on is one that tends to be overlooked by those on the outside of a program, but those players are required to do an awful lot despite the fact that the prospects of earning significant playing time are slim.

Last week Penn State head coach Patrick Chambers thanked Montminy for his hard work by giving him a scholarship for his senior season, and as evidenced by the photo at the 0:06 mark of the video above the young man paid the price in earning that reward. What’s even better is the reaction of his teammates, who would know how hard Montminy has worked to help them get better (and prepare for opponents) during his three seasons as a Nittany Lion.
