Creighton will be without their lone returning starter for two months, the school announced on Tuesday.

Austin Chatman will undergo surgery on Tuesday to reattach a ligament in his thumb. The Bluejays’ starting point guard will be out for two months, limited to light drill work and conditioning in the meantime. The program expects him to be back and healthy by the time the season begins.

Chatman has started 71 straight games for Creighton, averaging 8.1 points and 4.4 assists last season. With four starters graduating from the program after last year’s 27-8 season, Chatman will be the leading returning scorer for Greg McDermott’s club.
