Naadir Tharpe’s college basketball career is over, as the former Kansas point guard is headed to the professional ranks.

“I didn’t want to sit out,” Tharpe told Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports. “At this point, I’d rather just try the D-League instead of sitting out a year to play a year [in college].”

Tharpe played the last three seasons at Kansas, averaging 8.5 points and 5.0 assists, but he decided to leave the program this spring to be closer to his young daughter.

Tharpe considered transferring closer to his New England home but needed a hardship waiver in order to be eligible immediately.

Tharpe was painfully inconsistent during his time as the Jayhawk point guard, looking like a star one night and struggling to get the ball over half court the next. With Frank Mason, Connor Frankamp and Devonte Graham on the roster, there were limited point guard minutes available.
