It’s looking like Marv Albert, one of the most respected basketball commentators to ever call the game, will be doing more college basketball games beginning next season, according to a report from Matt Yoder at Awful Announcing.

Albert will no longer call NFL games on CBS and focus instead on the basketball side of things, which includes the 72-year-old Albert calling NBA games on TNT and the NCAA Tournament for the Turner/CBS alliance. The lack of the NFL in Albert’s schedule will also mean the veteran broadcaster gets more regular season college basketball assignments, as well.

“Working with Marv and having his voice on our NFL coverage the past three years has been a privilege for all of us at CBS Sports. We look forward to continuing our relationship on college basketball, both in the regular season and the NCAA Tournament,” CBS Sports chairman Sean McManus said to Yoder.

While the news of Albert calling a few extra regular season games isn’t Earth-shattering news in the college basketball world, it will be nice to get Albert’s voice on some more games while also getting him more involved with college basketball before the start of the NCAA Tournament.

Now, Albert should at least be familiar with a few of the premier teams up-close entering the NCAA Tournament each season and Albert shouldn’t go into the broadcasts with minimal exposure to each team. It’s a win for college basketball fans looking for more out of the NBA guys on the NCAA Tournament telecast while also giving the college game another trusted voice in the regular season.

“I started feeling this toward the end of last NFL season,” Albert said to Yoder. ” I love everyone I work with. Sean (McManus) has been tremendous. As much as I’ve enjoyed doing the NFL over the years I had to cut down. The NBA season and the addition of calling the NCAA Tournament kept extending what I was doing.

“I’m happy about it, I’ll watch (the NFL) of course, there are aspects I’ll miss about doing NFL games but basketball is my passion and now the season goes from mid-October to the beginning of June with the NCAA and NBA,”
