Cincinnati transfer Jermaine Lawrence down to Hofstra, Iona, Manhattan

Jermaine Lawrence

Former five-star recruit Jermaine Lawrence is eyeing several mid-major programs as possible transfer destinations.

According to a report from Zach Braziller of the New York Post, the ex-Cincinnati forward is down to Hofstra, Iona and Manhattan.

Lawrence left Cincinnati after one season, citing a desire to return closer to home.

“I’m leaving UC beacuse my father is ill,” Lawrence said in a statement last week. “I want to be closer to home as well as be close enough where I can have him and my mom attend my games. We appreciate everyone’s support.”

St. John’s was also reportedly in the mix, though, Braziller also reported both sides talked and agreed it would not be a good fit.

The 6-foot-9 was regarded as the No. 26 overall recruit in the Class of 2013 by Rivals. During his lone season in the Bearcats, he averaged only 2.8 points and 2.9 rebounds in 15.0 minutes per game off the bench. Given the circumstances surrounding his transfer, Lawrence could receive immediate eligibility if he is granted a hardship waiver.
