Kentucky head coach John Calipari has right hip replaced

John Calipari

Kentucky head coach John Calipari often dealt with college basketball fans and pundits examining the body language of his team every moment of the 2013-14 season.

While many of his players shared criticism for eye rolls, looking down when being spoken to and generally having bad body language, Calipari himself could often be seen with some kind of grimace on his face while patrolling the sidelines.

But after Friday’s announcement that Calipari had his right hip replaced, maybe some of those looks were merely reminders that the 55-year-old head coach was coaching in a tremendous amount of pain.

According to Kentucky’s men’s basketball’s Twitter account, Calipari completed the right hip replacement surgery on Friday.

As the AP story notes, Calipari has hinted at the surgery since midseason and often walked with a noticeable limp throughout the second half of the season.

Hopefully next season, with Kentucky returning more experienced players and Calipari feeling better, college basketball fans won’t have to notice so much bad body language on an insanely loaded Wildcats team.
