Ohio State sophomore guard Amedeo Della Valle announced on Saturday that he would be leaving the program to turn professional. Della Valle is a native of Italy.

“It is now time for me to begin new experiences as I decided to head back to Europe to play PRO basketball,” he said in a statement posted on twitter.

Della Valle, who owns one of the best heads in college basketball, averaged just 4.0 points in 11.9 minutes this past season, but he became a bit of a sparkplug for the offensively challenged Buckeyes late in the season. He had 12 points, six boards and three blocks in a come-from-behind win over Nebraska in the Big Ten tournament.

Ohio State’s season ended on Thursday when the Buckeyes lost to Dayton in the opening round of the NCAA tournament.

The Buckeyes are also waiting to hear if LaQuinton Ross will enter the NBA Draft or return to school for his senior season.
