There are eight days left until Selection Sunday. Every morning from now until the bracket comes out, we’ll help you get caught up on the happenings with impact on the bubble from the night before.

Our latest bracket projection can be found here.

(This post will update throughout the night)

WINNERS

Utah: The Utes knocked off Washington in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament setting them up on a quarterfinal date with No. 1 seed Arizona. The Utes played an atrocious non-conference schedule and as a result, they are still sitting a ways off of the bubble. Beating Arizona would get Utah into the conversation again. They may need to make the finals if they want a real shot at earning an at-large bid, however.

Colorado: Beating USC wasn’t going to make waves for the Buffaloes with regards to their NCAA tournament resume, but losing would have. With Askia Booker leading the way Colorado held on to beat the Trojans 59-56, setting up a critical Pac-12 quarterfinal matchup with California Thursday afternoon. Quality wins are definitely important this time of year, but so is the ability to avoid catastrophic defeats.

Stanford: The one thing that Stanford couldn’t do was lose to Washington State. They didn’t, which means that the Cardinal will advance to face Arizona State in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 tournament. Stanford is 19-11 on the season, and while that record isn’t pretty, their only two losses outside the top 53 in the RPI came on the road in league play. Throw in four top 50 wins, and the Cardinal are in a pretty good spot. They might be able to withstand a loss to the Sun Devils, but winning on Thursday would make Selection Sunday that much less stressful.

Oklahoma State, Baylor and Oregon: The Pokes are officially off the bubble. There was still a slight chance that a loss to Texas Tech and some of the other bubble teams making runs could put them in a bad spot, but their resume is strong enough now to withstand a loss to Kansas on Thursday. The same can be said for Baylor, who beat TCU, and Oregon, who knocked off Oregon State. Losing to Oklahoma or UCLA, respectively, won’t hurt their resume enough to drop them past teams like BYU, Tennessee and Missouri.

LOSERS

Georgetown: The Hoyas are in major trouble. After losing to DePaul in the first round of the Big East tournament, Georgetown is now sitting at 17-14 on the season with a losing record in the Big East. The Hoyas do have some nice wins -- they beat Creighton and Xavier at home and won games against Michigan State, Kansas State and VCU on neutral courts -- but that gets outweighed by a 7-10 record against the top 100 and four losses to team outside the top 148 in the RPI. At this point, Georgetown is probably on the outside looking in, which is not a good things when you consider that basically everyone else on the bubble still has games left to play.
