Oto Osenieks career at Minnesota is over.
The school sent out a release on Wednesday afternoon announcing that, due to a series of knee injuries, Osenieks’ will not play for the Gophers next season. He has an issue with the cartilage in his left knee due to surgeries that he’s had on the knee.
“Unfortunately, this injury will limit his ability to continue playing beyond this season,” head coach Richard Pitino said.
Osenieks is a redshirt junior, meaning that while he has a year of eligibility remaining, this is his fourth season of college basketball. He’s missed the past two games as a result of the injury. Osenieks, who is from Latvia, averaged 5.6 points in 19.1 minutes this season.
Osenieks will remain with the team for now, according to the release, as he will be looking to pursue a career in coaching.
