Butler guard Rene Castro opts to transfer

Butler announced on Saturday that freshman guard Rene Castro has opted to leave the program to seek a transfer, according to a release from the school.

Castro, a 6-foot-2 native of Massachusetts, played in 12 games for Butler this season and averaged 3.3 points per game. Playing time for the freshman guard dwindled during conference play through as Rene only saw time in four games.

“Rene informed me that he is planning on transferring to another school,” said Butler head coach Brandon Miller in the release. “We wish him nothing but the best as he moves forward.”

Seeing as though Castro was losing his spot in the rotation during conference play, this isn’t too much of a surprise.
