Notre Dame freshman Demetrius Jackson missed Tuesday night’s game against Clemson, and after the game, head coach Mike Brey said that the reason was academics.

And while stories about Everett Golson and Jerian Grant make academics a loaded word for Notre Dame sports, the good news is that this does not appear to be a similar situation. On the radio after the game, Brey said Jackson “needs a break to get his academic house in order,” but emphasized in his post game press conference that Jackson could be back with the team after the week.

“He had a great fall semester and summer. He needs to improve academic habits. I’m putting on my H.S. teacher hat,” Brey said. “He needs to get back to those good habits I saw in the fall. He just didn’t get to as good of a start as he did in fall.”

Brey also tried to quell rumors of Jackson following Cameron Biedscheid out the door as a transfer by saying that the player is “very committed” to the university.
