Georgia Tech loses freshman guard Travis Jorgenson to a torn ACL

Georgia Tech’s 82-72 loss to Dayton proved to be even more costly for Brian Gregory’s Yellow Jackets, as they lost a key contributor for the remainder of the season. Freshman point guard Travis Jorgenson went down in the second half with a knee injury, and on Thursday the school announced that Jorgenson tore the ACL in his right knee.

Prior to the school’s announcement, the news was first reported by Jeff Borzello of CBSSports.com.

“This is unfortunate for Travis and a loss for us,” Gregory said in the release. “He had put in a lot of work and was poised to have a very good freshman year. But we know he’s going to get the best treatment and rehab possible, and with his work ethic, he’ll make a full recovery and be back on the court next year.”

Jorgenson came off the bench in each of Georgia Tech’s four games this season, posting averages of 4.3 points and 2.5 assists per contest. Before suffering the injury against Dayton, Jorgenson accounted for two points and two assists in 15 minutes of action. Losing Jorgenson means that Georgia Tech will take a hit from a depth standpoint, but experienced players such as Chris Bolden, Trae Golden and Solomon Poole remain available.
