Final Four MOP Luke Hancock to miss season-opener, has yet to practice

Luke Hancock shot 40% from three last season and averaged 8.1 points, which are more than respectable numbers.

But Hancock also spent much of the early part of the season battling a shoulder injury. We saw what he was capable of when fully healthy at the Final Four, when he won Most Outstanding Player by dropping 20 on Wichita State and 22 on Michigan en route to a national title.

I bring this up because, once again, it seems as if Hancock will begin this season banged up.

According to reports, Hancock will miss at least the season opener on Saturday against College of Charleston. He could be out at least three games, and has yet to practice this season.

For a team that is already dealing with the loss of Chane Behanan for an unknown amount of time, this is another blow. Hancock was expected to start this season at the three alongside Behanan and Montrezl Harrell, but with two-thirds of that front line sidelined, expect Wayne Blackshear and, potentially, Mangok Mathiang or Stephen Van Treese to start.

Louisville could end up playing North Carolina in the Hall of Fame Tip-Off Classic in late-November.
