In four seasons as a member of the South Dakota State basketball program, Clint Sargent was twice named second team All-Summit League and left as the program’s all-time leader in made three-pointers with 252.

After spending two years playing overseas Sargent decided that he wanted to make a move into the coaching ranks and he’ll do so at his alma mater, as head coach Scott Nagy has hired the sharpshooter as his director of basketball operations.

“I’m very thankful for the opportunity to join the staff here at South Dakota State, and I’m excited to work alongside Coach Nagy and the rest of the athletic department that did so much for me during my playing career” Sargent said in the release. “It feels great being back in the Brookings community and I look forward to another great year of Jackrabbit basketball!”

Sargent is the second addition to Nagy’s staff, with Joe Krabbenhoft being hired as an assistant. And if those two, with Krabbenhoft having played at Wisconsin, end up on the same team during those faculty lunchtime games, look out.

As for the Jackrabbits who will play in games next season, they have the tough task of accounting for the graduation of two of their top three scorers from last season’s Summit League tournament champion squad.

The biggest loss is point guard Nate Wolters, a second round pick in the NBA Draft who averaged 22.3 points, 5.8 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game as a senior. But forward Tony Fiegen, who averaged 10.2 points and 5.4 rebounds per contest, was no slouch himself.

The good news for South Dakota State is that leading rebounder Jordan Dykstra (12.5 ppg, 7.9 rpg) returns, as do guards Braydon Carlson (9.1, 3.5), Chad White (9.9 ppg) and Joshua White (9.2 ppg). Add to the returnees a four-member recruiting class that includes wing Anders Broman, and South Dakota State is more than capable of making a return trip to the NCAA tournament.
