With Steve Forbes heading off to Wichita State, Northwest Florida State needed to find a replacement, and quickly, to run the program that has been to the last two NJCAA national title games.

It took all of three days.

On Thursday, NWF State announced that they would be hiring former Hofstra associate head coach Steve Demeo.

“We sought after a coach that had Division I experience, head coaching experience and experience at the junior college level,” athletic director Ramsey Ross said. “Coach DeMeo not only fit all of our criteria, he was exceptional in every single phase. We are fortune to have the opportunity to bring some-one like coach DeMeo to Northwest Florida State College.”

All told, DeMeo has 17 years experience as an assistant coach at the D-I level, which should help out now that he’s taking over one of the best Junior College programs in the country.

“There’s a lot of talent there, and a lot of good kids,” said DeMeo. “Following Steve Forbes will not be easy and I have the utmost respect for him.”
