Two weeks after being granted his release from SMU, shooting guard Brian Bernardi has reportedly found his new home. The 6-foot-2 shooting guard committed to Hofstra on Tuesday afternoon. He picked Hofstra over Fairfield.
William Paxton, the Fairfield men’s basketball beat writer for the Connecticut Post, reported on Tuesday afternoon that a source had informed him of Bernardi’s commitment.
Bernardi was granted his release on June 26 after spending one season with the Mustangs. Although he saw 11.5 minutes per game, he shot 42 percent from behind the arc. Immediately after his release, the New York native was receiving interest from George Washington and Dayton along with Fairfield and Hofstra. Bernardi had reportedly visited both schools -- Hofstra on July 4, followed by a visit to Fairfield the next day.
Bernardi will have three years of eligibility remaining. He is now one of five players in the Pride’s incoming class -- the first under new head coach Joe Mihalich.
