Following the departure of head coach Tubby Smith and a desire for additional playing time, sophomore guard Joe Coleman decided to transfer from Minnesota in mid-May. Today, as reported by ESPN’s Jeff Goodman, Coleman has found a home in Moraga, CA playing for Randy Bennett and St. Mary’s.

Per NCAA transfer rules, Coleman will be required to sit out for the 2013-14 season and will have two years of eligibility remaining beginning in the 2014-15 season.
Coleman told ESPN.com: “It came down to the fact that Coach [Randy] Bennett has been able to develop guards and also that they have playing time available. When Coach Smith left, I decided I wanted to go somewhere that I could expand my game.”
Coleman is a proven commodity having averaged better than 26 minutes and 8 points per game last season.
By the beginning of the 2014-15 season, St. Mary’s will have had the majority of its roster turned over, and Coleman projects to slide into one of the starting guard spots.
