A couple days after announcing his intentions to transfer via Twitter, Texas Tech guard Josh Gray will reportedly attend Odessa (Texas) JC next season.

Gray, a 6-1 guard from Lake Charles, La., played in 31 games for the Red Raiders last season and averaged 9.3 points and 3.2 assists per game.

Gray’s two best outings of the season came in consecutive games in late February, as he scored 26 points in a loss to Oklahoma (February 20) and followed that with 20 points in a loss to Iowa State (February 23).

On April 1 the school introduced former Minnesota head coach Tubby Smith as its new head coach, replacing interim head coach Chris Walker. Walker was promoted following the dismissal of Billy Gillispie.

By transferring to a junior college Gray will be able to play immediately, and he’ll have two years of Division I eligibility remaining following the 2013-14 campaign.

Had he elected to transfer to another Division I school immediately Gray would need to sit out a season per NCAA transfer rules.
