There really isn’t enough that the world can do to help heal the damage left from the tragedy in Newtown, Conn. But on Sunday afternoon, Fairfield did their best to help.

The Stags invited around 300 kids and their parents from Sandy Hook Elementary and surrounding schools to watch their game against Niagara. The event was dubbed “Newtown Day” by the program. The school is about 25 miles south of the city.

The students and parents attended the game, in which which the Purple Eagles won, 67-64.

The kids all received gift bags full of Pez dispensers, a coupon for free admission to the Pez Visitor Center and other items. The students also got to take part in the pregame entrance and in skill games during game breaks.

It’s a small token of healing from a school who is helping, along with millions of others, to take the kids minds off what happened at their school.

Kudos to the entire program.
