West Virginia mascot cited for violation after using uniform’s musket to kill bear

Only in West Virginia, right?

Jonathan Kimble, the man who wears a coonskin cap and totes a musket on the sidelines in Morgantown as the West Virginia mascot, has been cited for a violation after killing a bear with the uniform’s standard gun and posting a video of it online, the Associated Press is reporting.

The violation is not for killing the bear or posting the video, which are legal, but rather for not wearing proper attire during the hunt.

From the Associated Press:

State Division of Natural Resources spokesman Hoy Murphy says hunters are required to wear 400 square inches of the high-visibility color for safety reasons.

As can be seen in the video Kimble posted to YouTube, he is instead wearing camouflage when he pulls the trigger. Public reaction has been negative since the footage began to circulate online. The video has close to 100,000 total views.

According to the AP, Kimble has agreed to no longer hunt with the uniform’s musket.

Just as we expected, there is absolutely no consensus when it comes to the No. 1 team in college basketball.

In the new Coaches Poll released today, Villanova slots in as No. 1 overall, but Maryland received the same number of first place votes as the Wildcats and seven teams — seven! — received at least one first place vote, including No. 8 North Carolina and No. 9 Michigan State.

The biggest shock to me?

The No. 1 team in the NBC Sports Top 25, Iowa, received just three first place votes and is ranked fifth by the coaches.

I think the coaches need to pay better attention.

Or they hate Fran McCaffery.

One or the other.

Anyway, here’s the full poll:

1. Villanova (20-3, 11 first-place votes)
