UCLA fans are demanding justice, regarding heralded freshman guard Shabazz Muhammad.
The 6-foot-6 star recruit was ruled ineligible hours before UCLA home opener against Indiana State.
According to the NCAA, Muhammad “accepted travel and lodging during three unofficial visits to two NCAA member schools,” which is a violation of amateurism rules.
Muhammad was the headliner in a star-studded recruiting class for Ben Howland, that included point forward Kyle Anderson, who was recently cleared by the NCAA, as well as power forward Tony Parker.
Howland and UCLA suffered through a troubling 19-14 season in 2011-2012, plagued with bad publicity.
The top recruiting class and renovated Pauley Pavilion was suppose to revamp the program. The Bruins have a new gym, but the fans have broke out the “Free Shabazz” t-shirts to support for Muhammad.
It wasn’t just the fans opposed to the NCAA’s decision. Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed the national anthem, rocking a homemade “Free Shabazz” tee.
