Top-100 guard Kendrick Nunn commits to John Groce and Illinois

John Groce

Kendrick Nunn, a Top-100 guard from Chicago, pledged his name Saturday to new Illinois head coach John Groce while on a visit to the campus, multiple outlets are now reporting.

Nunn, who plays alongside one of the nation’s top prospects, Jabari Parker, at Simeon (Ill.), averaged 15 points per game last season and becomes the third prospect committed to Groce from the Class of 2013.

“It was to the point where nothing else was going to get better than here,” Nunn’s father, Melvin, told ESPN.com. “There’s a lot of history at Illinois to do with it. That’s what it’s all about. He wants to continue the history. He did it at Simeon and now wants to continue it at the state school and be a part of a national championship at his state school.

“I think Kendrick believes he can get this rolling. He wanted to be a part of something he got started. Groce and his coaching staff want him to be a part of something he got started.”

Nunn joins Malcolm Hill and Maverick Morgan to round out the three-man class Groce has in place.

The Illini are still in play for another high-level guard, Xavier Rathan-Mayes, who cut his list to three schools recently.
