The Morning Mix

- Texas Tech should fire Billy Gillispie, hospitalized or not. The school’s athletic director is very concerned about the way BCG has been treating the players. Gillispie has been reprimanded, but really needs to be given the boot. In fact, I’d be OK with a permanent ban from all levels of coaching. To make matters worse, top-100 recruit Aaron Ross tore his ACL. In case you were unaware, BCG has run off 15 players from the Red Raiders program in just two short years

- Ed Cooley has done a great job recruiting high-level talent into Providence. The only problem is that not many of his highly touted recruits have been ruled eligible to participate by the NCAA. Last year it was Kiwi Gardner, and this year it’s Ricardo Ledo, who was granted a partial qualifier by the NCAA. For you simple folk, Ledo will be able to practice with the team, but cannot participate in games this season

- A good-read from Andy Katz on Pittsburgh’s new man in the middle, New Zealand native Steven Adams

- Considering the wealth of senior talent returning in 2011, The Cal Bears were one of the biggest disappointment of the season. But Mike Montgomery pulled a major recruiting coup with the addition of highly touted shooting guard Jabari Bird

- Michigan recruit Austin Hatch, who was seriously injured in a plane crash last summer, has been granted a waiver to receive an extra year of eligibility. See, sometimes they get it right

- Sorry Matt Norlander, but I’m going to have to vehemently disagree on this one. UNC got off scott-free. The NCAA deserves to get shredded

- Man, Rick Ray has had a difficult first few months on the job at Mississippi State. The latest hit to his squad came this week when both Shaun Smith and Kristers Zeidaks were dismissed from the program

- It turns out that a wide receiver for Maryland’s dreadful football team made a pitch to new-minted Terrapin Dez Wells

- A great-read from Eric Crawford, who details how Rick Pitino plans to change things up in 2012-2013

- The Big East released their conference schedule. Here’s the Big East ESPN schedule

- For some strange reason, UConn kept the Big East Tournament on their schedule. I guess they think there’s still hope. They’re wrong

- Your one-and-only women’s hoops-related news story of the day: High school coach writes a book sex and women, abruptly resigns
