Nick Valvano, the brother of late NC State coach Jim Valvano, is stepping down from his position as CEO of the V Foundation for Cancer Research after 13 years, the organization has announced.

Susan Braun has been selected to take over the job duties.

The creation of the V Foundation was announced during Jim Valvano’s famous speech at the 1993 ESPY Awards, during which he spoke the famous line, “Don’t give up. Don’t ever give up.”

Since its creation, the V Foundation says it has given $120 million in cancer research grants. That number includes $14.4 million this past year. It has been a fixture on the college basketball scene in Valvano’s memory, including as part of the annual Jimmy V Classic in New York City.

This year’s Jimmy V Classic will feature Texas vs. Georgetown and Valvano’s NC State vs. Connecticut on Dec. 4.

The woman taking over for Valvano as the head of the foundation, Susan Braun, is formerly the president and CEO of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. She also spent time as the executive director of Commonweal, a research institute in California focused on health and environmental research, according to the Associated Press.
