Depending on who you ask former Virginia Tech forward Dorian Finney-Smith may have been likely to leave Blacksburg regardless of who the head coach was, be it the eventually fired Seth Greenberg or new head coach James Johnson.

According to Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv the ACC All-Freshman team member has made his decision as to where he’ll transfer to, committing to Florida on Thursday afternoon.

Finney-Smith, a native of Portsmouth, Virginia, averaged 6.3 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for the Hokies in 2011-12.

His commitment means that head coach Billy Donovan has landed two front court transfers who will be eligible in 2013, with former South Carolina forward Demontre Harris being the first.

The 6-8 Finney-Smith scored a season-high 17 points in Virginia Tech’s 66-65 win over Boston College on February 12, a game in which seven of his eight rebounds came on the offensive end.

Finney-Smith posted all three of his double-doubles in the first month of the season, grabbing a season best 16 rebounds in the Hokies’ season-opening victory over East Tennessee State.

With Erik Murphy and Patric Young heading into their senior and junior seasons respectively (Will Yeguete will also be a junior in 2012-13) Florida could definitely use some added front court depth for 2013-14.

Adding Harris and now Finney-Smith definitely helps in that regard.
