As West Virginia prepares to make the move to the Big 12, the man who helped them into the Big East has been honored with an induction into the West Virginia Hall of Fame.

Ed Pastilong, the former athletic director at West Virginia, will be one of seven inducted in the 22nd class of honorees.

Pastilong oversaw West Virginia’s first move to a major conference, as the Mountaineers joined Big East football in 1991 and became a full member in 1995.

Under his watch, the school made a total of $65 million in upgrades, including improvements to the WVU Coliseum, home of the school’s basketball team.

He served from 1989-2010. Over the past two seasons, he has served as athletic director emeritus.

With Pastilong still working as AD, Bob Huggins became the school’s head basketball coach in 2007. Since that time, the Mountaineers have posted a record of 120-56 and qualified for the NCAA tournament in each season.

The Mountaineers will join the Big 12 this upcoming season, following 17 seasons as an all-sport member of the Big East.
