UPDATE, 12:15 p.m. ET: The fast ratings for the title game differed from the overnight ratings in a big way. Kentucky-Kansas earned a 12.3 rating, the second-highest highest mark since the 2005 title game.

Kentucky’s victory against Kansas may have delighted the state of Kentucky, but it didn’t do as much for TV viewers.

Overnight ratings for the men’s NCAA tournament title game were down from last season, per John Ourand Sports Business Journal. It was a 9 percent drop from last season’s Connecticut-Butler game, which was roundly viewed as one ugly game. But maybe Kentucky’s dominance was a bigger turnoff.

The Wildcats (38-2) led by 14 at halftime, which may have led many viewers to tune out.

Overall NCAA tournament ratings were down 8 percent from last season. In a tournament without a single buzzer-beater and where the biggest upsets occurred on the first Friday, maybe that shouldn’t be a surprise.
