Will President Obama choose alma mater Harvard in his bracket?

Screen Shot 2012-03-12 at 1.35.17 PM

President Obama is faced with a dilemma this year.

No, it has nothing to do with the Electoral College or how he plans to get opposing sides in Congress to work together.

Mr. Obama’s alma mater, Harvard, is in the NCAA tournament. They are a 12-seed, matched up with fifth-seeded Vanderbilt in the Round of 64.

Obama has filled out both a men’s and women’s bracket all three years of his presidency, but this is the first time his alma mater will be in the field.

Will he stay loyal to his school and go with the upset pick, or stick to the seeds and pick the SEC champs to advance?

Last year, he has been pretty accurate. When his final team, Kansas, was knocked out by Virginia Commonwealth, Obama was ranked in the top 94th percentile of all those who submitted a bracket.

Regardless of what happens in the NCAA tournament or who Obama chooses, this has been a monumental year for Harvard, who won their first outright Ivy League title since 1946, made it into the AP Top 25 for the first time in program history, and will be headed to their first NCAA tournament in 66 years.

Harvard got into the tournament by avoiding a one-game playoff with Penn, who lost in their regular season finale to Princeton.

Some are picking Harvard to upset Vanderbilt. With their slower pace and strong defensive numbers, they could slow the Commodore attack.

But there is always the other side of the coin. Vandy has shooters, which Harvard has struggled against and, if the Commodores are able to get out on a run, Harvard’s pace doesn’t allow them to go on quick scoring stretches to make up ground.

Will we see some Ivy League magic? Who do you have in this No. 5/12 matchup?

It looks like President Obama’s campaign is starting a bracket challenge of their own. Check it out here.
