Maybe it’s the sleep deprivation, but I laughed aloud after reading this headline from Eamonn Brennan: Northwestern recruit stoked about Northwestern.
The recruit, David Sobolewski, is a 6-foot-1 combo guard from a Chicago suburb. When Wildcats coach Bill Carmody watched Sobolewski play on a Friday, he offered a scholarship two days later. Sobolewski accepted later that day.
So why’s it funny? Guess I didn’t expect it. Can’t think many ballers are stoked about attending Northwestern. But Sobolewski marches to a slightly different beat.
“The second time I had visited, coach [Tavaras] Hardy kind of told me that it was Northwestern policy that coach Carmody likes to see players before he offers them,” he told ESPN. “I had a good tournament in Highland, Ind., this weekend, and coach Carmody was there. It was a no-brainer for me when they offered. It feels even better because it’s where I wanted to go. I didn’t make a decision to make a decision.”
