Is there such a thing as too much ACC? ESPN doesn’t think so.
The network will broadcast about 5,000 events on various platforms (ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN3.com and ESPN International) during the next 12 years, which means the deal involves more than just football and basketball.
Not sure the public is clamoring to see more than just football and basketball, but it’s a move worth making, especially if it means sports fans can finally see live events again, rather than shows featuring talking heads.
Then again, given that it’s reportedly a $1.86 billion deal, I’d squeeze as much out of the conference sports as possible.
The biggest winner out of the deal? ACC baseball. Conference commissioner John Swofford said the baseball tournament will be seen on one of the outlets. Since when does college baseball rate that kind of interest when it’s not the College World Series?
